Where do I start?
Step One :: An Eye Exam - you must have had a routine comprehensive eye examination in the last 12 months. If performed by another doctor, we will need to get a copy of those exam records for us to review. If you've not had a recent eye exam, contact us to schedule one. This exam is often partially covered by your vision or medical insurance. Contact us to get started.
Step Two :: Visual Skills Evaluation (VSE) - This evaluation involves both the doctor and the therapist. These appointments are very indepth, lasting about 2.5 hours. Both parents (or guardians) must be present for at least the last porton of this visit.
Step Three :: Therapy Plan - The exact duration of therapy that is required varies. Most treatments can be accomplished in about 20-30 weeks. However, some of the most challenging conditions may require more time. Therapy consists of weekly 50-minute in-office visits with our therapist. This is accompanied with specifically assigned and customized home exercises. Between visits, the therapist and doctor track the patient's progress and make adjustments to the therapy plan based on results.
Step Four :: Progress Check - About halfway through the planned therapy course, you will meet with Dr. Liddicoat again to access progress and repeat some of the tests performed at the original Visual Skills Evaluation.
Step Five :: Final Progress Check and Graduation - Final testing will be repeated, and recommendations will be made as to how the results of therapy can be maintained and or continued at home. In some cases - additional treatment is required.
